Course description

Objectives

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to utilize Windows PowerShell for administering and automating administration of Windows based servers and workstations.

  • PowerShell Cmdlets and PowerShell Pipeline
  • Windows Management Instrumentation
  • Windows PowerShell Scripts

  • Automating Workstation/Active Directory Administration.

Assessment criteria

The students learn the theory and do course exercises in own pace. At the end of the course a final test is taken (Moodle test).

Grading is Approved/Fail.

Student can enroll to this course whenever it’s suitable for her/him and start it at once when enrolment form has been handled.

Note! The course exercises are performed using the student’s own computer. The device requirements are:

  • 8 GB RAM
  • Hyper-V-virtualization: Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) or AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) processor
  • Second level address translation (SLAT) (Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 Hyper-V, Windows version: Education, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate)
  • Internet connection.

Note! Building the course exercises environment requires Windows knowlege:

  • Hyper-V environment
  • Downloading images from cloud services
  • Configuring virtual machines.

Course additional info

The course is performed in a Microsoft Windows AD environment. The prerequisites for taking this course are Windows operating systems. The virtual laboratory environment consists of a Windows Server 2016 (Domain Controller, LON-DC1), Windows 10 Workstation (LON-CL1) and Windows Server 2016 member server (LON-SVR1).

The course exercises are performed using the student’s own host computer. The device requirements are:

8 GB RAM Minimum Hyper-V-virtualization: Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) or AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) processor Second level address translation, SLAT (Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 Hyper-V, Windows version: Education, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate) 25 GB free disk space Internet connection.

Building the course exercises environment requires Windows knowlege:

Hyper-V environment Downloading images from cloud services Configuring virtual machines.

The course virtual machines can be downloaded from Metropolia file server. Instructions are in the Exercise environment section.
