This course is worth 2 credits. The course content covers planning one’s studies, study skills, the significance of study motivation, and reflection on working life skill requirements and working life competencies, the adoption of which begins while still at school.
This course is based on a humanist-constructivist learning concept. According to this concept learning is a process in which the student’s active and reflective information management and self-development are central. The student’s and the groups’ learning experiences form part of the learning resources. The teacher guides and supports the learning process. The learning environment activates and is interactive, encouraging the student to reflection and self-direction.
On the course, the student reflects on his/her learning, study motivation, and study skills. S/he plans studies in a goal-oriented way and learns to demonstrate his/her abilities and become familiar with working life skills.
The course teacher participates on the course through the Optima learning environment. The teacher monitors the learning, provides instructions, responds to questions, gives feedback on tasks, grades tasks and awards a course performance grade.

Planning of study
Working life skills
Each section includes learning material and assignments located at Optima learning environment. The sections are completed one at a time within the provided schedule in such a way that the assignments are completed by the submission dates. First the student read and become familiar with the study material and then they do the tasks for the section. Submission details are given with each assignment description. The teacher enters an assignment submission schedule in the Optima calendar. The course also includes extensive literature list and www-links which can be used to acquire further knowledge on the subject.
After completing the course:
- Students will understand the of motivation and one's attitude to learning and study skills to learning results.
- Students are able to utilise and develop study skills in learning, and be equipped to engage in self-directed learning.
- Students will be able to plan goal-oriented studies and be able to define their abilities in relation to working life requirements.
- Students will be able to demonstrate their competencies in a CV and job applications.
A pass grade is awarded to students who have been active and have completed all tasks by the submission date and have participated in the discussion task.”
