Microbiology and basics of asepsis; basics of anatomy and physiology; basics of immunology; central measures and diagnostic examinations in nursing care in accordance with the following FinCC 4.0 (Finnish Care Classification system) components: elimination, breathing, fluid balance, active daily functions and self-direction, nutrition, blood circulation.
Knows how to follow the principles of infection control. Understands the importance of anatomy and physiology as part of nursing care. Understands and is able to implement the key measures and diagnostic examinations needed in nursing care. Is able to plan, implement and evaluate the individual care of the client/patient in inter-professional collaboration. Is familiar with nutritional recommendations for different target groups and is able to assess the nutritional status of the client/patient and identify a client/patient at risk of malnutrition.
The course is divided into 8 parts:
1. Microbiology and Basics of Asepsis, 27h
2. Anatomical terminology and Basics of Immunology, 15h
3. Elimination with Basics of Anatomy and Physiology, 20h
4. Breathing with Basics of Anatomy and Physiology, 20h
5. Fluid balance with Basics of Anatomy and Physiology, 20h
6. Active daily functions and self-direction with Basics of Anatomy and Physiology, 20h
7. Nutrition with Basics of Anatomy and Physiology, 20h
8. Blood circulation with Basics of Anatomy and Physiology, 20h
Student starts the course from part 1, and continues from the part 2. After studying these parts, student may continue from parts 3-8. Parts 3-8 start with anatomy and physiology. After studying these, student may continue studying materials from nursing interventions. Every part from 3 to 8 will end with case assignment.
You must activate the SAMK-ID and @student.samk.fi email address to complete the course. After your enrolment has been processed, the Student Services Secretary will send you the activation instructions to the email you provided in the enrolment form.
All enrolments will be approved. Applications for this nonstop-course are processed in the next two weeks, but not processed during the Christmas break or July. When your enrolment has been processed, the Student Services Secretary will send you a message with instructions on how to activate the SAMK student identifier to the email address you provided in the application form.
