Course description

Learn the basics of Finnish with the help of this course. You will learn useful everyday vocabulary and phrases, and key grammar concepts.

Topics: getting to know each other, greetings, the days of the week, numbers, countries and languages, weather, the seasons, family, appearance, food and beverages, time expressions, living arrangements, travelling.

Grammar: personal pronouns, the “olla” verb, consonant gradation: the change of k, p & t, verb types, questions, nominative plural, genitive, partitive, locative cases.

Assessment criteria

Grading scale: 0 – 5

The course is assessed based on overall progress, unit tests and a final exam.

The course assignments must be completed/exam completed by 31.07.2025 at the latest.

The teacher assesses assignments/marks grades in the study register every two weeks.

100% online studies (Edunia)

The workload of the course is approximately 135 hours of independent study.

The course is studied independently online in the Edunia Moodle learning environment.

You can study the course independently at your own pace during the implementation period 16.09.2024 – 31.07.2025.

The study includes self-correcting tasks, and both written and recorded materials in English.
