Basics of Programming in Python

Course description

Python is a modern programming language with clear, and readable syntax, and widely available resources making it an excellent choice as the first programming language. In addition, the language is free to use, and available on all major operating systems.

The course covers elementary programming topics:

• Variables
• If-elif-else statements
• While statements
• Switch statements
• For statement
• Random numbers
• Functions (no recursion)
• Collections
• File handling
• Elementary object oriented programming

Assessment criteria

Grading scale: 0 – 5

The course is assessed based on weekly assignments. The course assignments must be completed/exam completed by 31.7.2025 at the latest. The teacher assesses assignments/marks grades in the study register once a month.

Course way of working and time table

100% online studies (Moodle)

You can study the course independently at your own pace during the implementation period 15.9.2024 – 31.7.2025.

The workload of the course is approximately 135 hours of independent study.

Course enrolment info

Studies are free of charge for CampusOnline students, i.e. for the present degree students of Universities of Applied Sciences in Finland and for the study path and exchange students of UAS degree studies. Please register to the CampusOnline courses of Savonia UAS by RIPA Service if it’s available at your home institution. You find the course selection of Savonia UAS and can register in the student administration system of your home institution (Peppi/Pakki).

Course fee for open UAS students is 75 euros.

For to enroll on these studies, you need to have a Finnish Social Security Number/ID.
