Course description

During this course, you will study the basic types of futures knowledge.

Expected learning outcomes:

  • You will understand and be able to describe the various types (categories) of future knowledge.
  • You will understand and be able to describe the principles of the uses and producing of futures intelligence.

Futures studies can be defined as a systematic study of possible future events and circumstances. Foresight is the perceiving and analysis of the alternative futures and the choices which are related to them. In other words, futures studies and foresight both refer to investigate the futures, and foresight specifically refers to the use of futures research methods and techniques for management purposes.

Prerequisites

The course is an independent part of three online futures studies courses. However, if you are not familiar with the basics of future studies, it is recommended that you complete the course “Introduction to Futures Studies and Foresight”.

Assessment criteria

Evaluation is based on completing the exam presented in the course Moodle.

  • Pass: The student reaches the required level in the exam specified in the course Moodle.
  • Fail: The student doesn’t reach the required level of the exam specified in the course Moodle.

Course way of working and time table

This course is done completely online (Moodle) and independently, and you can complete it at your own pace, at a time that suits you. The course needs to be completed on 31.8.2024 at the latest.

Online material to be announced in the course Moodle. The whole course is done in English. Course material is in English.
