Upon completing this course, you will be able to:
The course consists of five modules: Information Technology, Communication, Information Retrieval, Image and Video, and Security. The course includes online materials, exercises, and assignments.
The course is evaluated on a scale of pass-fail.
The course is available 01.12.2023 – 30.06.2024.
NOTE! The course material is in Finnish, but you can translate most of the assignments to English using browser’s translation function.
Registration is open continuously, and new registrations are accepted approximately once a week (less frequently during holidays).
Completing the course requires participants to have access to a computer and an internet connection.
Many modern web browsers offer the possibility to translate web pages into different languages. Here are instructions for the most popular ones:
Microsoft Edge: 1. Open the webpage you want to translate. 2. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select ”Translate”. 3. Choose the desired target language from the drop down menu.
If the translate button is not visible, you can enable the translation feature in Edge’s settings: 1. Open Edge settings. 2. Go to the ”Languages” section. 3. Enable the ”Offer to translate” option.
Google Chrome: 1. Open the webpage you want to translate. 2. Click the translate button in the right edge of the address bar (the symbol is a sort of bookmark or A-letter within brackets). 3. Choose the desired target language from the dropdown menu.
If the translate button is not visible, you can enable the translation feature in Chrome’s settings: 1. Open Chrome settings. 2. Go to the ”Languages” section. 3. Enable the ”Offer to translate” option.
Mozilla Firefox: Firefox does not offer a built-in translation feature, but you can use translation extensions like ”Google Translator for Firefox”. Here are the instructions to enable this extension: 1. Open Firefox and go to Firefox’s add-on management. 2. Search for ”Google Translator for Firefox” and install it. 3. Open the webpage you want to translate, and click the translate button in the browser’s toolbar.
Safari: 1. Open the webpage you want to translate. 2. Click the translate button in the right edge of the address bar (two A-letters). 3. Choose the desired target language.
This course as available also in Finnish ”Työelämän digitaitojen perusteet”. You cannot get credits from both implementations.
